In honour of Consent Awareness Week (Sept. 15-19), the Office of the Associate Dean, Academic, is proudly partnering with Human Rights & Equity Services (HRES) to offer a Waves of Change Bystander Intervention Workshop for �첥��Ƶ students.

Actively building and maintaining a culture of consent and community safety is everyone's responsibility. This Bystander Intervention Workshop will teach you the skills to intervene, interrupt, or stop sexualized violence so you can help your friends, family, and community, and contribute to cultural, social, and political change on campus and in broader society.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion and direction on how to include it on their CVs/resumes.

Virtual Information Session: DSU Health & Dental Plan

The Office of the Associate Dean, Academic, invites Schulich Law students to a virtual information session about Student VIP, the health and dental insurance coverage provided by the �첥��Ƶ Student Union (DSU).

Hosted by Student Accessibility and Wellness Advisor Amanda Wilneff, and led by the administrator of the DSU plan, Connor from Student VIP, this session will:

Offer a breakdown of benefits, from prescription drugs and dental care to vision, mental health, and extended health coverage for services like massage therapy and physiotherapy, plus additional perks and resources available as a plan member;
Explain how to make claims, find practitioners, and access the benefit card;
Explain the deadlines and requirements for opting-in/out of the plan, or adding family members; and
Try to answer questions with a Q&A following the presentation.

Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure

For the third consecutive year, the �첥��Ƶ Law Students team will be participating in the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure in Halifax.

The Schulich Sports Committee invites all members of the Weldon community, along with their family and friends, to support the team by participating in the event and/or by making a monetary donation.

In 2024, the team raised $17,093.12 and this year, hope to raise more than $20,000.

Volunteer Event for 1Ls at McInnes Cooper

McInnes Cooper is pleased to partner with the Telecom Pioneers – a group of Bell Aliant retirees who dedicate time to various volunteer activities – to invite all first-year Schulich Law students to a volunteer event to help make heart-shaped pillows for cardiac surgery patients at the QEII hospital.

Following the activity, students are welcome to mingle with McInnes Cooper members, enjoy some light refreshments and learn more about the student recruitment process at the firm, as well as its Collective Social Responsibility Initiative, which includes community engagement, environmental stewardship, pro bono legal services, wellness promotion, and inclusion, diversity, equity & accessibility (IDEA).

Why heart-shaped pillows? Heart-shaped pillows provide relief for cardiac surgery patients by stabilizing the chest cavity when coughing, repositioning, sneezing, or laughing, which can be painful after an operation. Beyond the physical benefits, heart pillows also serve as a symbol of comfort, support, and survival, often becoming cherished mementos of recovery.
